A parade of endangered species are taking back space in the urban city landscapes.
For Passage Festival 2023, I created a performative parade in collaboration with Elsinore Theatre where we walked through the streets of Elsinore wearing our masks of local endangered and rare species together with our knotted costumes that connected us to each other and symbolized ecosystems. Both the costume and the masks were made beforehand together with an international group of young people and with locals from residential areas facilitated by me together with textile artist Charlotte Østergaard and mask builder Randi Kjær.
The parade ended at the waterfront where I performed and brought the green hawker to life. The green hawker is the responsibility species of Elsinore. Responsibility species means that at least 20% of the total population of a species lives in a certain country and therefore the country has a special national responsibility to protect the species.
The workshop and performance was part of PASSAGE Planet that addresses the human situation in connection with the climate crisis and addresses a concern about the time we live in. PASSAGE Planet invites us to share our concerns about the climate crisis with each other, through conversations and creative workshops.
