Becoming Species for Sol Nexø as part of the exhibition program Solastalgia at Folkemødet 2023.
Becoming Species explores in the pop-up performance Syge Væsenet, the sound and movements of the sick species. Folkemødet is supposedly for the people but who has access to become part of Folkemødet? Accompanied by a degenerate version of the Bornholm folk melody Peder Kolbergsen, the performance Syge Væsenet presents the choreography of the sick species. The species have become sick because the wild nature in Denmark has too little space. Choreography directs bodies – also those of folk dance. With our performance, we offered sick dance to let the dancing bodies feel the disease, so that understanding that we are in the sixth mass extinction does not remain a rational realization, but on the contrary becomes something we as living beings can really feel. In Becoming Species, we channel and amplify with our methods voices of nature.
